Exploring Coffee Shops in Kelowna

Posted on August 15th, 2022 in Food & Beverage, The Shore Recommends

If you’re a caffeine addict in a new city, your first thought after waking up is probably, “Where are the best coffee shops near me?” Or maybe you’re a local looking for a new place to grab a warm (or cold) beverage and a treat.

Kelowna has a great coffee scene with plenty of options to choose from. To help get you started, we’ve put together a list of the best coffee shops in Kelowna – from “worth the drive” to “a quick stroll away.”

Walkable Options

Diner Deluxe

If you have a hard time functioning in the morning without coffee, we’ve got you covered. Caffeine is just steps away at Diner Deluxe, located on-site at The Shore. With specialty coffees and beach-inspired style, the cafe focuses on using simple, local, and sustainable ingredients. Swing by for a coffee to-go, or enjoy a relaxing morning with breakfast on their summer patio. Start with a locally-roasted Phil & Sebastian Coffee, or enjoy a Maple Spice Latte for a sweet Canadian treat.

Bean Scene Pandosy Village

A re-imagined heritage space, Bean Scene in Kelowna’s Pandosy neighbourhood is designed with simple lines and beautiful reclaimed wood features. Grab an iced coffee to go and walk a few steps to two of the most popular beaches in town! You can also order their beans online to make a delicious cup of coffee in your suite. Their roastery roasts orders the day they’re placed to ensure peak freshness.

Marmalade Cat Cafe

The Marmalade Cat Cafe is another noteworthy coffee option that’s within walking distance from The Shore. Meals made from scratch, a quaint quirkiness, and live music every Friday night make this cafe a favourite for Kelowna locals. There are plenty of boutiques and shops nearby for browsing, so take your to-go coffee or tea and do some window shopping along Pandosy street.

Tim Hortons

Whether you’re having a craving or are just looking for a quick double-double to go, there are many Tim Hortons in Kelowna to choose from. The closest is a quick 6 minute walk away. Grab a classic iced cap or treat yourself to a Dream Donut. Our favourite is the Birthday Cake Confetti.

Close and Drivable

Bright Jenny Coffee

Coming in at the top of our worth-the-drive list is Bright Jenny Coffee. Popular with visitors and locals, it has multiple seating sections to choose from depending on your mood. There’s an outbuilding in the back for meetings, remote work and study sessions, and a beautiful pet-friendly courtyard for sharing brunch with friends and family. Equipped with heaters and tents, you can enjoy the outdoors here all year long.

In terms of coffee, their roast profiles are typically on the brighter and lighter side, which allows the bean’s origin’s true characteristics shine through. Bright Jenny prides themselves on coffee exploration and creating ‘Eureka!’ coffee moments. If you’re in the mood to try something new, their rotating pour-over menu never disappoints. When it doubt, ask the staff for a recommendation – they’ll happily chat through the options with you.

Sprout Bread

Tucked away near Waterfront Park, Kelowna’s Sprout Bread is a hidden treasure. Enjoy its great atmosphere, whether you’re staying for work or passing through. Choose one of their delicious sandwiches from their plentiful food menu or pick up pastries to go. Either way, you won’t be disappointed.

One of our favourite menu items at Sprout is their avocado toast, topped with feta and local microgreens. We love stopping by for brunch on a Saturday morning, especially after a yoga class down the road at Our Yoga Space. Bring a book and sit in the loft above the bakery, enjoying a latte and the aromas of freshly baked bread.

Bliss Bakery

If you find yourself downtown looking for coffee and pastries, you can’t go wrong with Bliss Bakery. Drinks range from their huge hot chocolate to small and tasty gibraltars (a double shot of espresso and two ounces of steamed milk). They’ve got a great selection of baked goodies to choose from too, including their Seasonal Specialities menu. Their holiday gingerbread and Christmas cakes are worth writing home about.

Deville Coffee Co.

While you’re downtown, make sure to check out Deville Coffee Co. on Bernard. You won’t regret ordering the Nutella Latte – not too sweet, just delicious perfection. And if you’re a bookworm, grab a drink and browse at the nearby Mosaic Books. This independent bookstore has a great selection, including books by local authors and a large bargain section.

Pulp Fiction

Pulp Fiction is a Kelowna classic. This eclectic cafe serves an extensive menu, including any drink that contains espresso and milk, and heavenly treats from local bakeries. While you’re waiting for your coffee, browse their collection of antique books and collectibles. If you stick around, make sure you keep an eye out for potential celebrity sightings. Pulp Fiction is sometimes used as a filming location.

It’s a Bakery

With locations in Kelowna and West Kelowna, It’s a Bakery offers breakfast, lunch, and treats. But make sure you stop by early if you have something specific in mind. Their food is made in the morning and can sell out throughout the day! The Kelowna location is connected to Barn Owl Brewing, so keep an eye out for the big, red barn at the roundabout. During the summer, you’ll often find a pop-up crafters market on weekend mornings located outside in the courtyard.
