Kelowna locals take breakfast and brunch very seriously. It’s a great way to start a weekend morning and catch up with friends and family before an afternoon of activities. Because the Okanagan is home to an abundance of local produce, restaurants have the good fortune of offering fresh and colourful menu items. And brunch is no exception.

The Shore Kelowna, located in Kelowna’s Lower Mission neighbourhood, offers beautiful and comfortable long-term accommodations to its guests. Its proximity to Gyro Beach is ideal for morning strolls, and its central location means that nearby restaurants are plentiful. To help you choose, we’ve put together a list of our favourite breakfast and brunch eateries, all within driving distance of The Shore. These local restaurants range from classic to modern to flat-out innovative – we’re certain that you’ll find one to your liking.

1. Diner Deluxe Kelowna

What could be better than brunch made with local and sustainable ingredients, just steps from your door? Diner Deluxe is located on-site at The Shore Kelowna, with dine-in or take-out options to fit your preference. Serving two locations in Calgary and Kelowna, Diner Deluxe is focused on comfort food prepared in-house with fresh, seasonal ingredients.

If you’re dining in, we recommend sampling their brunch cocktail menu – The Shaft with Tug 6 Cold Brew Espresso is a local favourite. For brunch, we love their grilled grapefruit and Ogo Sun Bowl. Once you’re done, take a walk across the road to Gyro beach and spend the afternoon enjoying the lakefront.

New to Kelowna, OEB follows the same standard of excellence that their patrons are used to enjoying in cities like Vancouver, Calgary and Toronto. The restaurant offers familiar breakfast foods with a modern twist, like their delicious Canadian Lobster and Shrimp Crepes. If you’re a fan of morning cocktails and mimosas, their drink menu is extensive. For those who don’t want to choose, their mimosa tasting flight offers all four flavours.

3. The Bohemian Cafe

Bohemian Cafe is located downtown on a seasonally car-free street. The brother and sister-run cafe and catering company draws its menu from old family recipes. Ingredients are sourced as locally as possible, including their homemade back bacon, sausage, bread, and jam.

For a breakfast treat on the lighter side, we recommend their famous blueberry oatmeal buttermilk pancakes served with fresh berries and icing sugar. Enjoy with a mimosa on their street patio to get brunch started on the right foot.

Bread Co. now has two locations, one on Pandosy Avenue near The Shore and the other on Bernard Avenue. Everything is freshly baked and the artisanal pastries have developed a reputation as some of Kelowna’s finest.

Krafty Kitchen knows how to get its customers excited for the weekend. Their much loved Hip Hop Brunch serves hip hop-inspired breakfast items with great beats from the 80s and 90s. Be sure to check out the dish names to know what “hip hop-inspired breakfast items” refers to. We love the Easy-E Eggs Benny and the Notorious BLT. 6. Naked Cafe

For vegetarian and vegan breakfast in Kelowna, Naked Cafe is a great option. The breakfast and lunch spot has been fully vegan since opening its doors back in 2015. The owners, along with various friends of theirs, were desperate for a good, modern vegan eatery in the downtown core. Everything is freshly made using local ingredients. The popular Benny Bowl is indicative of Naked Cafe’s values: simple, fresh, cruelty-free, and delicious. It’s made with eggy tofu, hash brown potatoes, asparagus, oyster mushroom bacon, and hollandaise sauce. Pair with a hot or iced Naked Latte with coconut whipped cream.

Located on seven beautiful acres of agricultural land, The Jammery takes its name from its jam production facility. Since opening its doors in 2000, the popular Kelowna brunch spot has developed a strong reputation for offering classic breakfast staples, at a great price, all day long. The all-you-can-eat waffles served with freshly whipped cream and homemade berry sauce are an absolute must-try. While you’re there, stop by their cosy shop and browse The Jammery’s full collection of homemade goods and gifts.

Don’t just take our word for it. The Jammery has been featured on the Food Network’s You Gotta Eat Here. In this episode, they feature the infamous Breakfast Paella which has real crab, shrimp, scallops and lobster served on hash browns with poached eggs, toast and homemade jam.
