The Best Chinese Food in Kelowna

Posted on September 30th, 2022 in Food & Beverage, The Shore Recommends

Once you get an appetite for Chinese food, it’s pretty hard to ignore. Ginger beef, wonton soup, deep fried shrimp. So many delicious dishes to choose from. We’ve written down a list of the best Chinese food in Kelowna for when the next craving hits. From fried rice at Mei Wei in West Kelowna to the Hong Kong-style custard bun at Asian Pear on Harvey Ave, you won’t be disappointed with your dinner order.

West Kelowna

To find you the best Chinese food in Kelowna, we started a little farther out from home but these places are definitely worth crossing the bridge for.

Golden Chopsticks

Our first stop for Chinese food in West Kelowna is right downtown at Golden Chopsticks Restaurant. A fairly tight menu keeps you from feeling overwhelmed with choice, or you can keep things extra simple with their dinner menu for 1-8 people. We suggest the Singapore Rice Noodle dish or ask for a vegetarian substitution on a classic dish and enjoy some Ginger-fried Tofu. Bring cash for an extra 10% off.

Mei Wei Chinese Cuisine

Another popular choice for Chinese food in Westbank is Mei Wei. Known for their tasty bbq and monthly specials, Mei Wei uses fresh and high-quality ingredients in their recipes. Order à la carte, grab a combo, or build your own custom combo for a delicious night out (or in). We liked the Ginger Beef or Almond Chicken and Singapore Rice Vermicelli.

Royal Wok Restaurant

Located in the Super 8 in West Kelowna, the Royal Wok Restaurant is currently only offering takeout and delivery. Try one of their specialty dishes like the Hunan Shrimp or Ginger Beef or stick with their classics. We loved the Crab Meat Cheese Wontons and Wor Wonton Soup.

1655 Westgate Rd, West Kelowna, BC
18 min drive (11.9km) from The Shore

Looking for something closer? These spots are within a 10-15 minute drive of the Shore. Pick up some takeout and bring it back to enjoy on your private patio or eat in for the full dining experience.

Yum Yum Tree

A friendly space with fresh and tasty food choices, Yum Yum Tree is another spot that can be busy but worth the wait. And don’t be put off by the unorthodox location situated in the Capri Centre. This gem runs a tight ship with a small menu that packs a flavourful punch. We suggest the Sesame Chicken or any of their chow mein dishes.

153-1835 Gordon Dr, Kelowna, BC
9 min drive (4.1km) from The Shore

Asian Pear Buffet

Asian Pear is Kelowna’s go-to buffet spot. A big open space means plenty of room for everyone, while lots of food options at the buffet takes care of even the pickiest of eaters. We recommend the Wonton Soup and their Hong Kong-style custard buns.

2050 Harvey Ave, Kelowna, BC
11 min drive (6.1km) from The Shore

Various types of Dim Sum in Dim Sum baskets; pertaining to the best Chinese food in Kelowna.

Dragon King

If you’re looking for delicious dim sum, look no further than Dragon King in Kelowna. After moving in 2019, they expanded their menu to offer more delicious food choices. From salt and pepper prawns, to ginger fried chicken, their own house special chow mein and more. You can’t go wrong with their lunch dim sum.

14 min drive (7.1km) from The Shore

For over three decades, Mekong in Kelowna has served people fresh and delicious Chinese cuisine. The new location seats up to 171 and you can rent event and meeting spaces. Dishes at Mekong feel like a new twist on old favourites. Try their beef in black sauce, it’s a sweet and buttery delicious dish. If you’re not into beef, the almond chicken is delicious and the deep fried prawns are amazing. Don’t forget to add an order of the veggie spring rolls – they’re addictive. Feeling indecisive? Try one of their takeout combos or deluxe dinners to try a bit of everything.

Chan Fortune Restaurant

If you’re looking for bigger portions and a cozy, homey feel, Chan Fortune is a must. A short 20 minute walk or 4 minute drive from The Shore, Chan Fortune is a small but bustling space with really friendly staff and delicious food. We suggest the Ginger Chicken or Salt and Pepper Squid.

3968 Lakeshore Rd, Kelowna, BC
4 min drive or 21 min walk (1.8km) from The Shore

Bubble Tea in Kelowna

After dinner, treat yourself to a dessert in the form of bubble tea at Milk & Sugar Bubble Tea Cafe. There are two boards’ worth of bubble tea to choose from but don’t let that overwhelm you – you really can’t go wrong with any choice. You can get blended ice cream and/or fresh fruit into some of the drinks, turning them into the richest and most decadent teas around. Bonus: they also serve a full menu of Chinese food so you can stay for a full meal and a drink. We recommend the Fresh Blueberry Mango with added lychee & green apple poppings or the Strawberry Dragon Fruit Cheesecake (but be careful, this one is almost a full meal!).
